Textual Play: Women's Work in Literary Hypermedia Worldwide

New Media practices can reflect a variety of emphases . visual, textual, interactive, and temporal. From a long-running creative blog to a short Flash animation, the possible mix of structural elements is large. In reviewing the recent work of women in literary hypermedia worldwide, however, some similarities of approach and audience engagement are discernable. In the realm of digital textuality, the question of game vs. play, the relationship of story and history, and the use of visual language are issues that are frequently explored in women's new media work. This panel will address innovative work by women in digital textuality and digital technology.
