Spring 2002:: ENG 1131: Writing Through Media

For this class, you will need to purchase 5 texts

1. System Shock 2. Looking Glass Studios/Irrational Games. This will not be available at the bookstore. You must buy this from another store or ONLINE. You must have this by the end of the second week of class so begin looking for this immediately.

Do use a gameguide and do use cheats if you don't normally play video games, this is not an easy game: Gamespot's huge detailed game guide and walkthrough here; another group of codes and walkthroughs is available from Gamefaqs here, but Gamefaqs is often less clear and less reliable than Gamespot so I would advise using the Gamespot walkthrough.

2. Bolter, Jay. Writing Space: Computers, HyperText, and the Remediation of Print. Hillsdale, NJ: Erlbaum Associates, 1991. This will be at the Florida Bookstore Volume I and II.

3. Miller, Frank. The Big Fat Kill: A Tale from Sin City. Darkhorse Comics: 1996. This will be at the Florida Bookstore Volume I and II by the end of January.

4. Jackson, Shelley. Patchwork Girl Watertown, MA: Eastgate Systems. This must be purchased from Eastgate.

5. One additional video game, hypertext, or website of choice for part of the final project: this must be chosen by the third week of class so you have time to work with the text and so ordering complications don't ruin your grade by thwarting your work with the text.
