Sept 8: Monday 10:30-11:30am

  • Introduction: What is the MOO?
  • Chatting and Walking around the MOO
  • Fun stuff: Thinking, Beavis-ing, Spazing, exploring New York
  • Types of MOO commands - those used for chatting, those used for emoting/looking, describing (but that don't actually affect the geography of the MOO), those used for actual movement, and those used for building. Today will cover all except those used for building.

Sept 9: Tuesday 10:30-11:30am

  • Using Autobuilder: how it can be an easy start, and give confidence, and then you can tweak with actual verbs
  • Building Rooms and Objects (@create and @dig)

Sept 10: Wednesday 10-11am

  • MOO Teaching Strategies and Assignments
  • Guest Speakers: Zach Whalen and Julie Sinn.

Sept 11: Thursday 10:30-11:30am

  • In class developing one or two teaching assignments per person. These assignments are to be helpful for your teaching. No one is in any way obligated to use these assignments, but concrete examples will help everyone.

    Together we'll:

    • Decide on what type of assignment would work for your class.
    • Figure out the requirements for the assignments.
    • Map out a teaching plan for how long the assignment will take in terms of class time and plan what each day of class time should do to build towards the assignment.
    • We will share these and put these on the web for other instructors.

Sept 12: Friday 10:30-11:30am

  • Possibilities in MOO Research
  • LLOM
  • Keeping your Own Realm
  • Text Games and MOO: Infocom and Adventure in Emacs
