Peer Review of Summaries [Mark all notes on the summaries] 1. Get in a circle. 2. Pass your summaries to the right. Check to see if the person's name is on the paper and to make sure there are 2 summaries of around 100 words each with citations. 3. Pass to the right. Check to see if the summaries are written in complete sentences. 4. Pass to the right. Look for active voice, and mark instances of passive voice. 5. Pass to the right. Check subject-verb agreement. 6. Pass to the right. Check for overall content--does the summary make sense? Could you explain what the summary is about? 7. Pass to the right. Check grammar on the summaries--are all words used correctly? Mark any words that seem incorrect, any grammar errors (it's for the possessive of its; their for there [place]; gendered language; fragments; run-ons; typos; punctuation). 8. Pass to the right. Quietly read the summaries out loud. Check for awkward phrasings--what sounds weird? What has a weird rhythm? Mark the weird spots. 9. Pass to the right and go back to the computers. Check for citation method--is it noted? Is it correct per that method? 10. Write down any issues/errors/positives that you noticed in the other papers that you do in your own writing. 11. Return paper to author. ====================HOMEWORK==================== 1. Remember to post to the discussion board. 2. Do the reading. 3. Note that my office hours for next week have changed. 4. Remember that Monday (most likely) our class will be observed by another teacher (he won't critique you or anything of the sort--just me). 5. Note that Monday we'll be talking more about annotated bibliographies. 6. Email me if you have questions.
