Fall 2005: ENC 1102: Argument & Persuasion: Invoking the Professional Voice
Topic Proposal
At this point you should have a tentative research proposal for your final paper in mind, although you may certainly alter or refine your topic as you investigate it. For now, however, please answer the questions below to inform me of the direction of your plans. If you have any questions, please email me.
1. General Topic Heading (under what general field would you list your paper?):
2. Tentative Title:
3. Tentative Thesis (Condense your research argument into one sentence; this sentence will more than likely change in scope and focus):
4. List at least three reliable sources that you plan to look at during
your research (be specific in terms of names of journals, books, databases,
etc.; you may not use them, but you need to start thinking about where
you will start to look for information):
5. Briefly explain your interest in the topic.
6. How would you describe the significance of this research. In other words, why are you writing this paper and to what ends will it inform you and your audience about the topic? What is to be gained or lost? (In other words, answer the question “So what?” Why should anyone care?)
