Student 1

  1. My teacher's willingness to assist students with any problems they had.

  3. This course, for me, was helpful because I learned not only the fundamentals of English I also learned facts about life I didn't know.

  3. I liked it a lot. I really liked the materials we read and watched.

  1. She is so nice, willing to help outside of class, creative, bourght out the creative side of me, patient, and understanding.

  3. I liked it because it strayed from the norm, in that we read comics and different texts that I've never read or analyzed before; so it opened my eyes to new types of literature.
  4. I know more of what is out there to be read and it broadened my horizon due to all the readings we did and papers we wrote. Laurie is super nice and smart.

Student 4

  1. I liked the way we got to watch the music videos and other multimedia, rather than reading a book or poem.
  2. I didn't like the way she kept saying, "Wow, you guys are pretty quiet today." Although we werem this got annoying after a while. She could of asked us questions directly to get responses, instead of general questions.
  3. Overall, excellent course, highly recommend it. Printed materials, such as comic books, were fun and educational.
  4. Laurie Taylor is a great teacher, and knows what the kids like.

  1. She was very enthusiastic about the things we read and watched in class. She's always entertaining and interesting which spices up a boring class.
  2. Most students were apathetic to the things she taught, therefore her enthusiasm didn't help them much.
  3. This was an exceptional course. I enjoyed the range of materials we read and watched. Variety and going away form the norm helped make the class interesting an dit should have helped most students open up to new ideas.
  4. The class was fun and interesting. May need to dumb it down for those students that just can't grasp abstract things that are different to them. I enjoyed the level of intellectualism of the class though.

  1. Laurie related to the students very well. She is always enthusiastic about class subjects, and our discussions were always interesting.

  3. I like the materials and texts we read as well as the videos we watched. This class broyght different views and wasn't like other English classes I've had. That is why it caught my attention.
  4. I would recomend this course to anyone who likes a different kind of teaching method and to someone who likes studying different materials.

Student 7

  1. You had no problem answering questions and made sure all assignments were clearly explained. Any questions I ever had outside of class were easily taken care of through email. You responded quickly no matter the urgency of the matter.
  2. I don't recall any.
  3. The Structure of Arguments was not used very much so I regret purchasing it. MLA manual on the other hand has turned out to be a wonderful resource not only for this class.
  4. Most readings were quite interesting. Indecent Proposal was one of my favorites. The readings from SOA affected my writing style throughout the course in a positive way.

Student 8

  1. Laurie is a very good instructor. I prefer her teaching method, moreso than other instructors, She formulates discussions with the class about topics assigned to us. I enjoy the readings and the discussions held in class.
  2. None. She was very open and truthful about what she wanted to be done.
  3. My best class this semester. I enjoyed the group environment, and the way she mapped out her lesson plans. The online readings were also better than reading text in books. Appeared more interesting in comics and videos.
  4. Laurie was a very enthusiastic instructor, and loved what she did. She was very helpful with any and everything she assigned. I've learnt a lot in this course and know others will like it as well.

Student 9

  1. I liked how we made a circle with our desks and how Laurie did not make use feel intimidated just beacuse she was the instructor. Also, she welcomed any ideas and comments with an open mind.
  2. Even though the course said we were to do all this grammar work and play Soul Reaver, we didn't really follow through, but I was glad because I hate video games because I'm not good at them.
  3. I had never read comic books before this class, but personally I didn't really enjoy the, I'd rather read books.
  4. My overall opinion of this course is positive in that it was easy. I felt like she graded my essays much too generously and left only positive comments. It's nice to know what I needed to fix in order to become a better writer. But keep up the good work and enthusiasm.

  1. Very enthusiastic when it came to topics discussed. New and innovative topics were written about.

  3. Very good, I had fun writing about new and inordinary topics. I don't really like video games too much, so Soul Reaver wasn't as interesting as everything else. Overall, I enjoyed the objectives and intensity of this class.

Student 11

  1. Her energy was great. Each topic led to many others and stimulated thought. The topics assigned in the papers kept me motivated and interested.
  2. Her lenient grading policy made us have to spend less time on the course, but took pressure off and helped us learn more.
  3. A good introduction to English studies at UF. Helpful in the advancement of writing skills and overall English.
  4. Great teacher. Genuinely cares about students. Materials discussed actually have me interested in English, and that says a lot.

Student 12

  1. I liked the fact that it was so easy to get in contact with the teacher whenever necessary. She would reply to emails as fast as she could and would inform us of anything important through email. She was also very helpful in explaining what she was looking for in our papers.
  2. Having to rely on the internet too much may be a problem for some of the students.
  3. I liked almost all the material in the class such as anime, the comics, and the movies we saw. I think that other students might not enjoy it as much unless they are familiar with those genres.
  4. I liked the idea of journals because they helped to keep your grades up and it was very easy.

  1. She had a lot of enthusiasm which helped. She had a lot of ideas for topics that related to the night's before homework.

  3. I liked the comic books that we read and I wish that we spent more time on it and read more of them. I liked the whole concept of the readings online. I like the papers that we had to write - the topics were very general which allows us to write about anything. I liked that a lot.

  3. It was a good course because it exposed the students to different views, ones which they ordinarily wouldn't have experienced.
  4. The Aphex Twin video was freaky, but I think it was interesting to see it.

  1. The class was very informative and she is extremely smart and she had me learn completely new things which I never knew before, which is always a positive.
  2. No, I believe the course was run to the best of her ability and I never thought that her teaching style was a problem.
  3. This course is a lot of reading and writing, but class is fun with discussions, and there isn't a lot of busy work which is very good.
  4. Teaching with video games and comic books was very interesting and I enjoyed it.
