Strunk 3: Paragraphs

• Make the paragraph the unit of composition: one paragraph to each topic.

  • Not always true in business writing. Break paragraphs for visual clarity to make sure each paragraph is 3-5 sentences. For technical documentation and other works, this is a great rule.

• As a rule, begin each paragraph with a topic sentence; end it in conformity with the beginning.
